Vintgar gorge

Vintgar gorge is a must see side trip while you are in Lake Bled. You can enjoy a beautiful walk along the boardwalk on the Radvona River for around 1.6km, crossing rapids and passing by waterfalls before finishing up at Sum Waterfall. It is relatively easy although it can be slippery at times, there is a refreshment kiosk at either end. I recommend continuing on to the Church of St Catherine, a simple yet beautiful church with awesome views. Then you can either retrace your steps back through the gorge or follow the trail to the southwest of the church, through the meadows to the entrance to the gorge. If you can negotiate the boardwalk you will have no trouble walking the trail, the sheep and goats will keep you company.

It’s easy to reach Vintgar Gorge. There is a free e-shuttle bus leaving opposite the Bled Rose Hotel, on the hour, every hour. You can even continue your return trip from Nova Gorica jumping off at Podhom station and walking the short distance to the entrance to the gorge.
